The North East is home to Scotland’s third-largest high-growth tech cluster, boasting over 300 businesses and representing approximately 11% of Scotland’s tech companies. The sector employs a significant workforce of around 4,400 individuals and turns over more than £520 million per year in the region, contributing to economic growth and fostering a dynamic and innovative ecosystem. Businesses in the region work across markets including agritech, clean tech, health tech and sustainability. Energytech is the dominant focus, comprising 42% of companies, 59% of the region’s digital tech employees and 59% of the total sector turnover. The regional ambition is to catalyse and grow a vibrant digital economy embedded in the North East and to establish the region as a global hub for the industrial digital economy with a high-growth company cluster.
